Commissioned quilts
Whatever the reason may be, I would love the opportunity to design a custom quilt for you or someone you love! Whether you are looking for a quilt to hang as artwork, or a quilt for your bed, I can create a beautiful custom piece that will be perfectly you.
THE PROCESS
A commissioned quilt request is a collaborative process from the very beginning. A short interview is conducted with the customer regarding the theme and colour scheme of the quilt. A quilt design proposal is then submitted to you with three quilt design options. Once a quilt design is agreed upon, payment is required up-front. The timeline is based on workload and can be from 4 to 8 weeks.
The following questions and answers should help you understand the process of commissioning a quilt. Please call me if you have additional questions or when you are ready to discuss the specifics of a commission.
What is the lead time for commissions?
Delivery of custom quilts averages 8–12 weeks and will be confirmed at the time of your order.
Do you have any of your quilts in stock?
I occasionally have sample quilts available for sale but otherwise we make each quilt to order.
What are your standard sizes?
Approximate sizes are:
Mini Quilt (up to) 20" x 20"
Wall hanging 24” x 36”
Baby 50” x 50”
Lap 48" x 72"
Single 65" x 90"
Double 86" x 92"
King 100" x 92"
Our standard bed quilt sizes are based on a 10"–13" drop at the sides and foot of the mattress and vary by design. The exact dimensions of your quilt will be specified in your commission agreement.
How can I know exactly what I’ll be getting?
We draw up a commission agreement for every order. The agreement clearly states details including the design, size, colours, quilting pattern and thread colour, type of batting, backing fabric, delivery date and postage costs so that you know just what you’ll be getting.
Will my quilt be identical to the one shown?
Handmade means each quilt will be unique. We keep to the spirit of the original, but fabrics go out of print quickly and dye lots vary, so the fabrics and colours may vary from those shown. I can show you swatches if you need to see exact fabrics.
Do you design custom quilts?
I sure can! Contact me here and we can talk about designing a one-of-a-kind or site-specific quilt to suit your needs – there will be a small design development fee to create illustrations of multiple options based on your needs and budget. If you want to proceed with one of those options, we then draw up a commission agreement and make the quilt.
Returns
Custom quilts are each made to order, so all sales are final.
Payment
Custom commissions orders must be prepaid. I will send you an invoice via email for payment, before work commences.
Postage of finished quilts
Your finished custom quilt will be posted, registered and will require a signature for delivery. The postage and any associated insurance costs will be added to the cost of the quilt.
